Daddy Long Legs

I really enjoyed this book! I must say that I read the last letter in the book because I was too curious to see if he ever wrote her back, spoilers! My favorite quote was,

"It isn't the big troubles in life that require character. Anybody can rise to a crisis and face a crushing tragedy with courage, but to meet the petty hazards of the day with a laugh- I really think that requires spirit".

I also liked,

"...I am perfectly sure every moment of my life that I am happy. And I'm going to keep on being, no matter what unpleasant things turn up. I'm going to regard them...as interesting experience, and be glad to know what they feel like".

A couple of girls in my ward are pregnant and due in May and April. They were talking about childbirth and how scared they are. I was thinking that I was, and now am, very excited about it. It is an experience I can have that will connect me to billions of other women! And not to mention, has given me a miniscule insight to what the Savior has gone through for me.

  1. This book is definitely one you should all read--I know you'll enjoy it! I also "highlighted" your first quote. My other favorite was "I think that the most necessary quality for any person to have is imagination. It makes people able to put themselves in other people's places. It makes them kind and sympathetic and understanding. It ought to be cultivated in children." Also "I think that every one, no matter how many troubles he may have when he grows up, ought to have a happy childhood to look back upon." I honestly tried so hard to be sure my children were having a "happy" childhood. One of the apostles gave a talk once that a happy childhood was something every person should have. And my last quote; "You belong, Mr. Smith, to a sex devoid of a sense of logic. To bring a man into line, there are just two methods: one must either coax or be disagreeable." That last quote is mainly for laughs! Very darling book. I'm going to read Dear Enemy which is a sequel--at least it's in my lineup of "to read" books!
